COVID-19 Anxiety and Stress: Dealing with the Impact it has on our Bodies
At Stay Active Rehabilitation, we help clients manage the physical effects related to anxiety and stress caused by the pandemic.
There’s no question that the COVID-19 pandemic has had a major effect on all of us. We’ve had to adjust to mask wearing, social distancing, isolation from loved ones and friends, limitations on face-to-face activities and get-togethers, closure of places we always counted on going to, and increased concern about using public transit and shopping in our local supermarket. These changes can create a sense of loneliness and raise levels of anxiety and stress.
Anxiety and stress can accumulate in the body and affect our ability to make good, solid decisions. It can cause difficulty sleeping, changes in appetite and energy, headaches, and pain in the stomach, back, joints and limbs. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, it’s essential to address them early on.The longer you wait, the greater the risk of developing more serious physical effects.
Stay Active Rehabilitation provides healthy ways to manage physical symptoms related to anxiety and stress during the pandemic.
Prevention
At Stay Active Rehabilitation, we provide our clients with advice on preventing or coping with anxiety and stress. Here are some key tips:
- Have a daily routine to allow your mind to process difficult situations and find solutions. Physical activities that you love doing everyday can really help, whether it’s yoga, working out, going for a run, daily stretching… whatever works for you.
- Make sure you’re sleeping well and getting the optimal amount of sleep.
- Look after your nutrition. Avoid processed food. Eating healthier food makes a huge difference in reducing stress.
Treatment
Our therapists treat the physical problems that anxiety and stress can cause or manifest in different parts of body. These may include:
- Back, neck and/or joint pain
- Discomfort in pelvic floor and deep core muscles
- Tired, aching legs and ankles
- Dizziness and/or fatigue
In our one-on-one client care, we start by getting to the root cause of the problem, rather than just addressing the symptoms. Then we provide treatment options customized to your specific needs, and that reflect the latest research and study in the field of rehabilitation. Our goal is to decrease your symptoms and restore your full function in the shortest time possible.
We can meet with you in two ways, in person at our clinic or virtually…
Stay Active Rehabilitation is available to meet with you in person in our clean and secure clinic. Your safety is our top priority.
We’re an essential service and can therefore provide one-on-one consultations and treatments at our clinic. We’ve redesigned our clinic and safety protocols to keep you safe. We follow strict COVID guidelines to prevent infection, including the use of proper protection equipment (PPE), rigorous ongoing disinfection, and limiting the number of clients who visit us at any given tim. For more information about how we do this, please visit this site:

Stay Active Rehabilitation provides virtual appointments
Virtual consultations are another option. One of our clinicians will be happy to consult with you online to assist in overcoming the mounting challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, or any other physical issues you may have. The clinician can suggest protocols you can follow at home to reduce anxiety and pain; and help you achieve the same benefits you would receive when visiting our clinic in person.
